Cognitive Functional Therapy is a patient-centered approach to pain management, specifically designed for individuals with disabling low back pain (https://www.jospt.org/doi/10.2519/jospt.2024.12727) or any other chronic pain in the neck, shoulder, hip and groin, or knee. Cognitive functional therapy is also effective for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and peripheral neuropathic pain. It aims to address the complex interplay between physical, psychological, and behavioral factors contributing to chronic pain.

At Complete Physical Therapy, we incorporate interventions that target the specific tissues or mechanisms involved in the chronic pain condition, such as: manual therapy techniques for joint mobilization or soft tissue mobilization, exercise programs tailored to the individual’s specific condition and functional limitations, cognitive-behavioral techniques to address fear avoidance, catastrophizing, or other maladaptive coping strategies, and education on pain neuroscience, self-management, and relaxation techniques. This approach provides a personalized and comprehensive approach to managing your pain and improving your overall well-being.
